Kinesthetic Learners

Kinesthetic learners acquire information through movement. They are typically active children who enjoy physical movement. Kinesthetic learners appreciate flexible seating, or being able to move while learning. Teach in short bursts to keep their attention. Here are some suggestions to engage kinesthetic learners:

Field trips engage multiple senses, and can help kinesthetic learners who enjoy moving.

Dramatic play involves movement, speaking, and visuals like props or costumes.

Games, like sight word Twister, combine physical movement and visuals.
Tapping, snapping, or clapping can help kinesthetic learners with CVC words, sight words, and counting.
Add large body movements when forming letters and sounds.

Tactile Teaching Methods

Tactile teaching incorporates the sense of touch in learning. Students use "feeling" to make sense of information. Include items that keep their hands involved. Here are some examples of tactile methods:

Use clay or Play Doh to form and name letters.

Clay and Play Doh can be used to form numbers.

Plastic letters can be sorted and placed on top of alphabet charts.

Create letters using craft materials like plastic grass.
